Vendors, beggars banned from pedestrian-only zone
Vendors and beggars will not be allowed on 26th Street to the south of the Mandalay palace moat during the Thingyan festival next month and will face action if they are caught, warned Police Major U Nyein Chan Aung from Mandalay City Development Committee Police Force. “The pedestrian-only zone on 26th Street is likely to be crowded and foreign visitors are also expected. That is why we will need to arrange it well. “We’ve already announced that we will take action, so if we find vendors and beggars in the area despite the warning, we will take action against them under the Municipal Law,” he said.
